Home Building and Being ADA Compliant

ADA Compliant New Construction Home

ADA Compliant New Construction Home is possible. Holli Colbert with Cannon Builders shares with you about the possibility of having an ADA compliant new construction home. A couple came to my office with their son, and they were looking for a home that was more easily accessible to him in his wheelchair. Not knowing where to start, they had been looking at used homes, and just finding that there was gonna be a lot of work that was gonna have to be put into anything to make it ADA compliant and wheelchair accessible.

Information Session to Determine Needs

We had an information session. Took one of our plans that we already had the structure and the bones too, and brainstormed together, and I was able to map out a little bit different layout to make sure that the home would meet his needs. So not only are they putting their son in a brand new home with a 10-year structural warranty, it’s gonna be built ADA compliant. They don’t have to worry about making modifications, they don’t have to worry about making sure that the home is gonna meet his needs, because we’re gonna build it so that it is everything that he needs to make his life as easy as possible and comfortable to live in.

Questions About ADA Compliant New Construction Home

Some of their questions were needing a roll-in shower, making the doors wheelchair accessible, making them bigger, making ramps getting in and out of the house.

One of the benefits to building a home with a builder that has built so many homes is we know, and we can kind of preempt what you need as far as making sure that the home meets your needs.

We were able to map out some of our ideas, couple them with some of the ideas that they had from their home that he had used growing up. He’s now living in an apartment, and he has a service dog, and just wants a yard for his dog to be able to run around in.

We love finding homes that fit the needs of our buyers. If you have been hesitating to look for a home because you just don’t feel like it is something that’s within reach, or you don’t know if it’s gonna be suitable for your needs, don’t hesitate to ask your builder if they can make modifications to make sure that it fits your lifestyle.

We are able to do that and I would think they could too. If you have any questions, you are welcome to contact us here.
